The answer is “യമണ്ടൻ’ (Yamandan)/ Emden
യമണ്ടൻ’ (Yamandan) എന്ന വാക്കിന്റെ അർത്ഥം വളരെ വലിയ, ഭീമാകാരമായ, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ശക്തമായ എന്നാണ്. ഒന്നാം ലോകമഹായുദ്ധസമയത്ത് (1914) മദ്രാസ് തീരത്ത് ബോംബാക്രമണം നടത്തിയ ജർമ്മൻ യുദ്ധക്കപ്പലായ ‘SMS Emden’-ൽ നിന്നാണ് ഈ വാക്ക് മലയാളത്തിൽ വന്നത്. ആ കപ്പലുണ്ടാക്കിയ വലിയ ശബ്ദവും നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളും കാരണം ‘എമ്ഡൻ’ എന്നത് ‘യമണ്ടൻ’ ആയി മാറുകയായിരുന്നു.
