The annual meeting of MMA meeting was held at Daventry Court Hotel in Northamptonshire on 11th July. Ranjan Mathai, India’s High Commissioner to London was the chief guest for the main cultural event. In his speech the High Commissioner proposed work together and associate with other Indian doctors organisations such as British Asian Physician of Indian Origin (BAPIO) and Indian Medical Association (UK).
The evening entertainment for the event was provided by Idea Star Singer Joby John, Playback Singer Delsy Ninan and Mimicry Artist Kalabhavan Sateesh. Performance by MMA’s in-house talents included Otttomthullal by Dr Ajith Kartha and a selection of melodious music by Dr Vani Jayaram. Most of the delegates for the event arrived on Friday evening and took part in outdoor sports activities on Saturday morning.
Continuing Medical Education (CME), a special session to maintain competence and learn about new and developing areas in the medical field was held in the afternoon. Dr Suresh Chandran, Clinical Director and training programme director for acute medicine, made a compelling presentation for doctors considering a career in acute medicine. Dr Vijayakumar Kurup, Consultant at North Tees University Hospital presented a session on advances in Breast Cancer research.
AGM held the annual general meeting of MMA was also conducted on Saturday 11th July. The meeting passed amended constitution and elected new officials. The revised MMA constitution is available in the website. MMA’s vice president Dr Peter Paul has been elected as the President and Joint Secretary Dr John Mathews has been selected as the new Secretary. Two new executive members elected are Dr Prasanth Nair and Dr Suresh Chandran.
